Band Buddies
Band Buddies
The Band Buddies Program connects experienced band parents with new band families to provide guidance, answer questions, and help everyone feel part of the community from day one. Whether it’s your first year or your fourth, having someone in your corner makes all the difference.
For new parents, joining Band Buddies provides a low-stree introduction to band life via an experienced parent. Band Buddies is a great way to feel connected and involved early in your child's band career. For returning parents, becoming a Band Buddy enables you to share your knowledge to help facilitate a positive experience for new families. Creating positive experiences for new parents strengthens the band community. The time commitment is minimal, but the impact is huge.
New band parents are paired with a volunteer “Band Buddy” (an experienced parent)
Matches are typically based on grade level, instrument section, or general fit
Buddies connect early in the school year (or before band camp) and stay in touch throughout the year
Communication can be as simple as texts, quick check-ins, or meeting at events
Help new parents feel comfortable at events
Share helpful tips and lessons learned
Introduce them to other families and booster activities
Experienced parents serve as a go-to resource for questions like:
How can I best support my student?
What should my student bring to band camp?
How do competitions and game days work?
What are the time commitments and expectations?
When and where are booster club meetings?
Replace official communication from directors or the booster board
Provide medical, financial, or policy decisions
Serve as authority figures—this is a support role, not a leadership role
